Too often, you’ll find businesses operating with an ad hoc, slap-dash approach to risk assessment. Risk assessment documents are seen as tedious and dull and are often kicked into the long grass by firms who believe they have far more important things to think about. Yet risks to your workers are serious – especially if your firm is involved with vehicular transportation, heavy machinery, manual labour, or other fields where injuries are likely.

To take risk assessment seriously is to take the real threat of injury and litigation within your firm seriously. But in the years since, effective, closed-loop systems have been developed to log risks and the ways in which you’re working to counter them. Despite responsibility for your team resting firmly on the shoulders of business leaders and representatives who’ve been designated health and safety responsibilities, that’s not to say your staff can’t play a role in their own safety. They’ll do this through training, which you can provide to your entire team at any time.

Training sessions that teach your workers how to stay safe at work will help them avoid the kinds of risks that your business may expose them to. This is also a due diligence issue, seeing as new staff should always be introduced to the risks they might encounter on the job. Without having performed this training, you might find yourself liable should that new member of staff experience injury or harm at work.
